General Email Instructions

If you have a mail service subscribed to through your service, follow the instructions below for setting up your email client. Alternatively, you can use Webmail (https://webmail.avaruus.net) instead of a dedicated email client.

If you haven’t already set up an email account, do so on the Oma Avaruus (from the Main Menu under Settings -> Email).

Email Client

An email client is a software program that you install on your computer or mobile device to send and receive emails. Below is a list of some of the most popular and commonly used email clients for computers and mobile devices.

For Computers

Windows

Mac OS X

Linux

Mobile

Please primarily follow the instructions for your mobile device.

Email Settings

Once you have installed your preferred email client on your computer, set up the following settings:

Receiving and Reading Emails

Configure your email client to use the following connection method for receiving emails (IMAP or POP3 – see below): The password for your email account is the one you set in the control panel under Email.

SSL IMAP is the recommended connection method (connection settings below).

SSL POP3 (Secure Connection)

You can also use an unencrypted connection, but this is not recommended. The unencrypted IMAP connection port is 143 and the unencrypted POP3 connection port is 110.

Please note that you will not receive any emails until you have created the account in the control panel under Email.

Sending Emails

Avaruus.net provides an SMTP server for sending emails, which you configure in your email client. Instructions for activating sending for each email account can be found in a separate article here.

Alternatively, you can send emails using your internet service provider’s SMTP server. The SMTP server name is entered in the field, which is typically “SMTP Server,” “Outgoing mail server,” or “Lähtevän postin palvelin.”

Please note that if you use your own ISP’s SMTP server, you must maintain your domain’s SPF record and add your ISP’s (or all email account users’ ISPs) SPF record. The responsibility for maintaining this record lies with the customer in this case.

Below is a list of some Finnish ISP SMTP servers. If your ISP is not listed, please contact your ISP to determine the SMTP server name.
